Levno's team recently took on a community project that was not only a great team-building exercise but also an opportunity to give back to the community and take small steps towards achieving sustainability. The project involved cleaning up a 1 km section of the Te Araroa Trail, a 3000 km walking trail that stretches from Cape Reinga in the north of New Zealand to Bluff in the south.
Levno chose this project because the head office is located on part of the trail, often Te Araroa trail users are observed walking the trail which has resonated with staff that had completed various sections of the trail themselves. The Te Araroa Trail is considered New Zealand's walk of a lifetime, taking an average of 25 km a day for 120 days to complete.
The clean-up was carried out in collaboration with PrecycleNZ, a waste minimisation and green tech company based in Palmerston North. PrecycleNZ provided Levno staff with tools, hi-vis vests, and gloves to help with the clean-up. During the event, Levno staff collected an impressive 69 kg of rubbish from the 1 km stretch of the Te Araroa Trail.

At PrecycleNZ, it is believed that no material should be destined for landfill. In Aotearoa (NZ), an estimated 17.49 million tonnes of waste are generated annually, of which an estimated 12.59 million tonnes are sent to landfill. PrecycleNZ helps businesses reduce their environmental impact, improve the social impact of their business, optimise their resources for financial and environmental benefits, reduce the cost of waste disposal, and increase revenue streams.
Levno embarked on a sustainability journey in 2022 that includes a commitment to becoming B-Corp certified. Giving back to the community is an important part of this journey and with Levno’s newly established “Green Team” there will be many regular initiatives to come.
Levno's project to clean-up of the Te Araroa Trail is an inspiring example of how businesses can take a proactive role in preserving our environment.
